Sterling Silver (925)

As a precious metal, pure Silver alone is far too soft to wear as jewellery. Due to its softness, silver is mixed with other alloy metals such as copper, to give it strength which prevents it from becoming easily scratched or dented. This creates what we know as Sterling Silver, which typically has a silver content of 92.5% to create that lustrous shine. Tarnishing is a natural chemical reaction that does not permanently damage your jewellery. Silver jewellery which is in constant contact with the skin is kept shiny due to the natural oils on the skin however when exposed to air, silver will eventually tarnish, this may happen within a few days of storing your piece, or it could be months or years before any discoloration. There are a few key reasons your jewellery may be showing early signs of tarnish, but with proper cleaning and storage, you can keep your jewellery sparkling!

Silver loves to be worn! You can wear our silver jewellery everyday, showers and swims are fine, however take your jewellery off before swimming in a chlorinated water as this can oxidize your piece (turn it black). Also any chemicals on your skin such as creams and perfume will react with silver, easily turning the jewellery an unattractive black color - so use natural products! (Its better for your health too). Give your jewellery a quick clean before you store it and if the silver begins to tarnish, you can use a home cleaning remedy:

Occasionally, give your pendant a nice deep clean by washing it in warm water with dish wash detergent before you store it.

You can also apply some toothpaste to the silver and scrub gently with a toothbrush, rinse the toothpaste off well with water afterwards.

You can also purchase a silver cleaning cloth from any jewellery store near you.

9ct Yellow Gold Jewellery

9 carat refers to the percentage of gold in the jewellery, 9ct gold is made up of 37.5% pure gold, with other metals making up the other 62.5%. This allows for a more affordable piece of jewellery compared to the more costly 10ct or 18ct gold pieces that have a higher percentage of gold. 9ct yellow gold has a beautiful blonde color compared to the more 'yellow' 18ct yellow gold and is becoming a popular choice.

9ct yellow gold jewellery is tough enough to last a lifetime of wear and due to its specific alloy properties, it is harder and more durable than 10ct or 18ct gold. These pieces are a beautiful investment to your jewellery collection with assured quality and longevity.
